No, shaving, the dog is not, may cause it vulnerable to sunburn, the other problems on the road. If the scale is the question, I can not emphasize enough that one of the races or Bull Mastiff diet diet diet. If money is a problem for some of the high-end dog food is not only easy ways to put more nutrients in foods. A tablespoon of olive oil on dry dog food, a mixture of egg, once or twice a week ... etc. I recommend looking for ways to improve nutrition and brushing twice a week to reduce the shedding.

English mastiffs are dogs with short hair and not shaved. Sunburn, which the poster already mentioned, is certainly a concern, such as aggravated skin problems may be caused by or shaving. In addition, your dog does not mean shave reduce shedding. You see shed the same amount, but only for short hair!

If the scale is a problem that can significantly reduce the excretion of regular maintenance. I have two dogs and American English Mastiff. I swear by the FURminator. (Even when used regularly per week is sufficient), the amount charged to nearly 90 percent reduced. I have a FURminator on Amazon.com. It is much cheaper to obtain, directly from the company or PetSmart. It is very well done and worth every penny!
